Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about improving your typing speed.

We count keystrokes: every key you need to press for a correctly typed letter counts (also the correct letters inside a word with a typo), plus the space after each fully correct word. Uppercase letters and language-specific characters that need extra keys (for example Shift, dead keys, or a Korean syllable built from 2–3 keys) count as more than one keystroke. WPM = (correct keystrokes / 5) / time in minutes. Accuracy is the share of correct keystrokes among all keystrokes.

No, you can practice as a guest immediately. However, creating a free account allows you to save your history, track your progress over time, and compete on the global leaderboards.

Errors are highlighted in red. You must correct the error before proceeding to the next character (if 'Stop on Error' is enabled) or you can continue typing, but your accuracy score will decrease.

Raw WPM is your speed calculated using every character you typed, including mistakes. The standard WPM score adjusts for errors, giving you a better reflection of your functional typing speed.

Our typing test measures your speed in words per minute (WPM). You'll be given a text passage to type, and our system tracks your keystrokes, accuracy, and speed in real-time. After completing the test, you'll receive a detailed breakdown of your performance.

WPM stands for Words Per Minute. It's calculated from the keystrokes of the letters you typed correctly (plus the spaces after fully correct words), divided by 5 (the standard word length). For example, 300 correct keystrokes in 1 minute is 60 WPM (300 ÷ 5 = 60). "quick" is 5 keystrokes, "America" is 8 because the capital A needs Shift.

No, you can use all our basic typing tests without creating an account. However, creating a free account allows you to track your progress over time, save your results, and access advanced features like customized practice sessions.

Our typing speed measurement is highly accurate, with precision to the millisecond. We account for corrections, backspaces, and pauses. The final WPM calculation is based on your net speed after adjusting for errors.
